CLEAR Urges Support for PA Families Amid Covid-19 Crisis (March 23,2020)
The CLEAR Coalition’s member organizations are urging U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey, and our state’s entire ongressional delegation to prioritize Pennsylvania’s familes as they consider COVID-19 stimulus measures.
“All Pennsylvanians need support at this time,” CLEAR’s member unions said in the letter. “More than 350,000 Pennsylvania workers have filed unemployment claims in the last week, with more than 90,000new claims this past Friday (o3.20.20) alone. Business closures necessitated by the need to flatten the curve of the virus’s spread are not only resulting in layoffs, but also weakening the financial stability of many businesses, particularly small businesses.”
The Commonwealth, counties, cities and all municipalities will soon confront massive revenue shortages, which will jeopardize vital state and local services ranging from keeping our schools open and safe; quality care for seniors in nursing homes; and the wide array of human service programs that our vulnerable neighbors rely upon.
“We look forward to working with Governor Wolf and the General Assembly in a non-partisan fashion in the coming weeks and months as we all grapple with the effects this crisis will have on the families our members serve,” said CLEAR spokesperson Peter. Shelly.
CLEAR continues to support the 900,000+ working Pennsylvanians and their families the member unions represent throughout the crisis.
